The Home Printer Has Reentered Family Life as a Minor Adversity Coach

The printer remains one of the few consumer devices still willing to speak plainly through behavior, which is to say it continues to break trust without euphemism.

Most smart devices now hide their indifference behind polished language. The printer has retained a rougher honesty. It offers noises, blinking symbols, and a level of procedural contempt that feels almost artisanal in the current market.

Families keep printers because ordinary institutions keep requiring paper at exactly the moment everyone pretended paper had become optional. The machine knows this and has acquired the bargaining power of a monopolist.

That is why people do not describe printer ownership as convenient. They describe it as necessary in the same tone used for seasonal roof work or a relative with strong parking opinions.
